Midsummer Books is a youth-focused independent bookstore in the Fishtown neighborhood of Philadelphia, serving children ages 0–18 and the grownups who support them. Starting as a pop up in 2025, Midsummer Books joins the Our Mutual Friend Collective - a group of mom/women-owned businesses.
We offer a curated selection of literature, creative supplies, and programming tailored to young readers and teens.
Our goal is to become a go-to community space where kids can discover new authors, hang out after school, attend workshops, and build a lifelong relationship with books. With a mix of retail, enrichment, and events, Midsummer Books fosters both literacy and belonging.
About

Our Vision
At Midsummer Books, we believe that every young reader deserves a place where they can get lost in a story, discover their next favorite author, or even dream up a world of their own. We’re building a space that will be more than a bookstore. It will be a hideout for book-loving tweens and teens, a creative spark for budding writers, and a haven for kids who just need a cool place to hang out (preferably with a book in hand). We aim to build a community where curiosity thrives, imagination runs wild, and stories, whether told on paper, through art, or over a board game, bring people together in kindness and conversation.
Mission Statement
Midsummer Books is here to serve and empower young readers.
Our mission is to curate an exceptional selection of middle grade, young adult, and educational books that speak to the diverse experiences, interests, and wild imaginations of today’s kids and teens. But we’re not just about books, we’re about fostering creativity, connection, and a lifelong love of stories.
Where kids feel seen, parents feel supported, and everyone leaves with something that sparks joy (or at least a really great pun).
