Our Mutual Friend is a collective for book lovers, families, and community. We share our space with Gus & Ruby Resale and Fingerprint Books (a curated selection of Fiction and Non-Fiction for readers over 18).

What is Midsummer Books?

Midsummer Books is a children’s and YA bookstore in Fishtown, Philadelphia. We specialize in curated titles for ages 0–18 along with book clubs, writing workshops, and creative community programming.

We focus on books, gifts, and programs for readers ages 0–18, including early readers, middle grade, and young adult.

Does Midsummer Books buy used children’s books?

Yes. We buy select gently used children’s and teen books and offer cash or store credit. We also accept donations in good condition. Learn more about our buy back program.

What happens if I order from bookshop.org

When a you shop on Bookshop.org you are supporting all indie bookstores. Specifically, when a customer buys a book, they can choose to have the profits go to a specific local bookstore, or the profits go into a central pool that is shared among all participating bookstores. Does Midsummer Books offer book clubs or writing workshops?

Yes! We started book clubs in the fall of 2025. These were paused during our expansion and holiday sales season but will pick up in early 2026. We also plan to begin writing workshops for tweens and teens.

Can I place an order or do I have to shop in person?

We would love to help you find the book you are searching for. Reach out to us at lindsay@midsummerbooks.com to inquire about specific titles or ordering new/used copies.

 

We also create custom, age-appropriate gift bundles—including our seasonal Book Flood bundles—with hand-selected titles based on reading level and interests. That you can pre-order and we can coordinate delivery (fee applies).

Do you host events for families?
