Tween Writing Club - Blackout Poetry

Sun, Mar 08

Our Mutual Friend | Midsummer Books

Blackout poetry is part art, part word puzzle, and part magic trick. Tweens will explore how to “discover” poems hiding inside book pages by blacking out words, highlighting the ones that matter, and turning them into something totally new.

About the event

This workshop invites tweens to mix words and visuals to create one-of-a-kind poems using blackout poetry techniques. We’ll talk about mood, tone, and how small word choices can change meaning—then let kids experiment freely with markers, shapes, and design.

A great fit for creative kids who love art, storytelling, or both.
