What Is the Book Flood?

The Book Flood—also known as Jólabókaflóð, Iceland’s “Yule Book Flood”—is a winter tradition where families give each other books and spend the evening reading together. It’s cozy, thoughtful, screen-free, and perfect for building lifelong readers.

At Midsummer Books, we’ve adapted the tradition for families in Philadelphia with curated Book Flood bundles for kids and teens.

 

Our Gift Bundles:

Each Book Flood bundle includes:

• 1-3 handpicked books tailored by age, reading level, and interests

• Hot cocoa, chocolates, stickers & a bookmark

• Wrapped and ready for gifting

How we Curate Bundles

Our recommendations are never generic. We curate based on:

• Reading preferences (fantasy, mystery, graphic novels, contemporary, etc.)

• Skill level & confidence

• Favorite authors or past reads

• Special requests (diverse protagonists, spooky-but-not-too-spooky, high-action, uplifting, etc.)

You tell us a little bit about the reader — we take care of the rest.
