Upcoming Author Visits: Three Special September Events
One of our favorite things about author events is watching young readers realize that the stories they love were created by real people with big imaginations, weird ideas, and plenty of stories of their own to tell.
Come meet an author, ask a question, get inspired—and maybe discover your next favorite book while you’re here.
Jessica Yoon Storytime
Discover the Legend of Ban-Dal with New York Times bestseller Jessica Yoon. Storytime and crafts for all ages.
Sept 6, 2026

This modern Korean folktale about how the Asian black bear got its characteristic patch is a timely story about the delicate balance humans have with nature and about the trappings of greed and overconsumption.
We will have crafts, a chance to ask Jess questions, and of course a cozy storytime great for all ages.
Enter Wilderlore
An evening of adventure with Amanda Foody. Learn about worldbuilding and join our new series-themed book club.
Sept 16, 2026

Join us at Midsummer to meet Amanda Foody, author of the bestselling Wilderlore series, for a special after-school event celebrating the magic of books, imagination, and worldbuilding.
Readers will have the chance to:
Meet Amanda and hear about the world behind Wilderlore
Discover how an author creates magical worlds and creatures
Talk about Barclay Thorne and his adventures
Ask questions and participate in an author Q&A
Get books signed and meet the author
Keep the adventure going!
We're also launching a new Wilderlore Book Club at Midsummer Books!
Readers can sign up at the author event to journey through the entire series together — exploring the stories, creating their own field guides and maps, designing creatures, and more.
We're not just reading Wilderlore. We're entering it.
Over the fall we will explore the entire series together with three meetings per book.
Thoughout this adventure Amanda will help us kick off each new book in the series and answer burning questions along the way.
Creative horror writing
Explore fear and courage with horror writers Laura Parnum and Nicole M. Wolverton in this interactive workshop for young writers.
Sept 24, 2026

This workshop focuses on turning fears into powerful stories. Perfect for young writers, readers, and anyone with a big imagination.
Local horror writers Laura Parnum and Nicole M. Wolverton will talk about how stories help us explore fear and courage. Participants will take part in one or two creative writing exercises inspired by creepy dolls and other mysterious objects. Attendees are encouraged to bring a small object from home that feels strange, mysterious, or a little spooky, and we’ll build original stories around those objects.
