About the event
Spooky, funny, and full of heart, The Jumbies introduces readers to Caribbean folklore through the story of Corinne, a brave girl who must face mischievous spirits threatening her island home. In this middle grade book club, we’ll talk about courage, cultural stories, and what it means to stand up for yourself — even when you’re scared.
Kids will explore how folklore shapes communities, discuss moments that felt thrilling or eerie, and share what they’d do if jumbies came knocking at their door.
This is a two part event:
First we meet up to get a copy of the book, read the first chapter together and learn a little about the world we are about to explore. Approximately 3 weeks later we will meet again to discuss what we have read and do a related craft.
